COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Bristol: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Gloucestershire 400-9dec and 19-0, Glamorgan 350-8dec (Glamorgan 7pts, Glos 7pts) 31 July - 3 August 2009
Will Bragg fell just short of a maiden first-class hundred |
Herschelle Gibbs, Will Bragg and Gareth Rees all contributed as Glamorgan hit back on day three against Gloucestershire at Bristol. Resuming on 35-0 in reply to the hosts' 400-9, Gibbs (96), Bragg (92) and Rees (82) helped the Welsh county declare on 350-8 to trail by 50 runs. Jon Lewis took 5-73 for the home side, with Steve Kirby picking up 3-58. Gloucestershire openers Rob Woodman and Kadeer Ali then took the score to 19-0 at the close, a lead of 69. Bragg and Rees had moved the score to 181 before Bragg was forced to retire hurt with a chipped bone on the back of his left hand. Gibbs helped Rees add another 37 runs for the first wicket, before Rees was caught by Will Porterfield to become Lewis' first victim of the day. Glamorgan lost Michael Powell and Jamie Dalrymple for the addition of just six more runs before Gibbs shared a fourth-wicket stand of 100 with Mark Wallace (36). When Wallace was caught by Alex Gidman off the bowling of Kirby, it sparked a Glamorgan collapse which saw five wickets fall for 20 runs. The returning Bragg was also undone by the Porterfield and Lewis combination without adding to his score, with Glamorgan declaring on securing a fourth batting point.
