Derbyshire took control of the top-of-table clash with Kent thanks to a century from captain Chris Rogers on day three at Canterbury.

Rogers (107) struck 14 fours and shared a second-wicket partnership of 119 with Garry Park (53).

This helped the visitors to close the day on 236-4, a lead of 250.

Earlier, James Tredwell (86 not out) and Simon Cook (34) extended their eighth-wicket stand to 86 as Kent moved from 249-8 overnight to 289 all out.

After Cook pulled a short ball from Tim Groenewald to Dan Redfern at deep square-leg, Kent added just two more runs before Greg Smith trapped Amjad Khan lbw to close the innings.

Rogers then shared an opening stand of 60 with Wayne Madsen, who was run out backing up as Ryan McLaren deflected a Rogers drive on to the stumps at the bowler's end.

Park and Rogers combined to take the score to 179, before Park was trapped lbw by Tredwell.

The Australian then brought up his century from 177 balls, but was stumped soon after by Geraint Jones off Tredwell.

Redfern skied Cook to Justin Kemp without further addition to the score, but Wavell Hinds and Smith then combined to take Derbyshire to the close.
