COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Canterbury: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Derbyshire 303, Kent 249-8 (Kent 4pts, Derbys 5pts) 31 July - 3 August 2009
Wagg has taken 50 first-class wickets for the past two seasons |
Derbyshire's Graham Wagg (5-83) was the star performer on a rain-interrupted day two at Canterbury. Resuming on 49-1, Kent were soon in trouble on 135-6, with Wagg getting the vital wickets of Rob Key (25), Martin van Jaarsveld (12) and Justin Kemp (8). James Tredwell (67 not out) led a Kent recovery, but Wagg returned to take the wickets of Ryan McLaren (29) and Wayne Parnell (3). Tredwell was then helped by Simon Cook (16 not out) as Kent closed on 249-8. Division Two leaders Kent resumed well-set in pursuit of Derbyshire's first-day total of 303, but Wagg got the ball to seam around in a morning session that saw Kent lose five wickets for 86. Wagg took three wickets with his medium-fast swing bowling, before turning to spin to claim two more Kentish scalps after lunch, until rain washed out the day's final session with the hosts still 54 behind on first innings.
