COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Scarborough: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Nottinghamshire 395 Yorkshire 25-2 (Yorkshire 3pts, Notts 4pts) 21 - 24 July 2009
Hussey also hit a Championship century against Lancashire this season |
David Hussey hit 189 and Andre Adams a county-best 84 to give Nottinghamshire the initiative on day two of their clash with Yorkshire at Scarborough. Hussey resumed on 59, with his side in trouble on 101-5, but added 147 for the seventh wicket with Paul Franks (40). He was out to leave Notts on 302-9, but Adams then smashed eight sixes in his 57-ball 84 to take them to 395 all out. Ryan Sidebottom removed Jacques Rudolph for a second-ball duck as Yorkshire reached 25-2 in reply by stumps. Captain Anthony McGrath was the other Yorkshire wicket to fall, bowled by Adams just before the close for 15. That was the icing on the cake of an excellent day for Notts, who were very much on the back foot at the start of play. Their hopes of mounting a fightback looked slim when Chris Read fell early on to leave them 125-6. But Franks provided Hussey, playing his final game for Notts as a replacement for Adam Voges, with excellent support as they batted their side back into the contest. Hussey reached his century out of 162-6 off 131 deliveries and reached his 150 before Franks departed, bowled through the gate by Adil Rashid. Luke Fletcher departed immediately, trapped lbw by Deon Kruis, and when Hussey went for one big shot too many to be caught by Joe Sayers off Rashid, the end of the Notts innings looked close. But Adams had other ideas, dominating a stand of 93 for the final wicket with Sidebottom. Tim Bresnan and Rashid both disappeared out of the ground at the hands of the New Zealander, who hit eight sixes and five fours before being caught behind by Kruis. And as if to confirm it was Notts' day, Sidebottom trapped Rudolph lbw before Adam bowled McGrath in the penultimate over of the day.
