Nazir is in line to make his return to international cricket |
Pakistan have called up opening batsman Imran Nazir and fast bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan for the one-day series against Sri Lanka which starts on 30 July. The pair were suspended from international duty by the Pakistan Cricket Board because they were involved in the Indian Cricket League. But they have since cut their ties with the unauthorised Twenty20 competition under the PCB's amnesty scheme. It means they could return to the international fold after two years out. Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was overlooked for selection after declining to undergo a fitness test organised by the PCB last week because his mother was unwell. A test was finally conducted later in the week, but it was cut short without him even bowling a single delivery. Opener Nasir Jamshed, who missed the last two tours against Australia and the West Indies because of injury and sickness, has also been included in the squad with Salman Butt dropped. | 606: DEBATE |
Misbah-ul Haq and Shoaib Malik have retained their places Shahid Afridi, who opted out of the current Test series against Sri Lanka because he wanted to rest, returns to the team. The squad also includes uncapped 19-year-old batsman Umar Akmal, younger brother of wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal. The opening game of the series takes place in Dambulla. Meanwhile, Shoaib has also been left out of Pakistan's 30-man squad for September's Champions Trophy. His fellow fast bowler Mohammad Asif, whose drugs ban ends on 22 September, the day the tournament starts, has been included. Asif was banned for a year by the Indian Premier League for testing positive for the steroid nandrolone. The squad will be reduced to 15 by 22 August.
