FRIENDS PROVIDENT TROPHY, GROUP D, Northampton Northants v Essex - Match abandoned (Northants 1pt, Essex 1pt) Northants 124-4 (18ov)
Essex edged closer to clinching a place in the quarter-finals of the FP Trophy after their game against Northants at Northampton was abandoned. A thunder storm finally saw the contest, which had already been reduced to 18 overs per side, called off just before 1730 BST. Northants managed to make 124-4 in their rain-affected innings, with Rob White hitting 51. Essex need just one point from their final two games to make the last eight. Derbyshire, who are four points behind Essex with also two games to play, are the only side that can prevent them joining Lancashire in the quarter-finals, with the teams going head-to-head at Chelmsford on Monday in a floodlit match.
