Somerset tail-enders fuel finale

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Trent Bridge

Somerset's tail-enders rallied well to set up a potentially exciting final day with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

At 198-5, after the loss of main hopes Marcus Trescothick (98) and Justin Langer (35), Somerset were only 75 on.

But Zander de Bruyn (54), Craig Kieswetter (52), Ben Phillips (39) all helped pile up a total of 383.

And, in response, Notts lost three Bilal Shafayat (32), Alex Hales (28) and Mark Wagh in reaching the close on 112-3, needing another 149 to win.

BBC Radio Nottingham's Robin Chipperfield gives his verdict on the third day at Trent Bridge:

"This has been an excellent match, and there seems no determining a winner until late on the fourth day.

"Having bowled Somerset out for less than 150, Notts will have sensed their opportunity to really hammer home the advantage.

"But credit the visiting county's attack, who stuck to their task and used the favourable conditions sensibly.

"Notts will feel they should go on to win the game, because of the depth in their batting line-up and also by a forecast which suggests more sunshine than cloud on Saturday.

"When it clouds over, the ball appears to swing more at Trent Bridge. But this could well be a tight contest."
