Gloucestershire bowlers Steve Kirby (4-41) and Vikram Banerjee (4-62) were the star turns as Northants were bowled out for 161 at Wantage Road.

That gave the visitors a first-innings lead of 133, to which they then added 105 in their second innings.

After William Porterfield had fallen for a first-ball duck, Hamish Marshall then hit 68 to dominate a third-wicket century with Kadeer Ali.

Nicky Boje had earlier led Northants' resistance with 58 off 94 balls.
