County Championship D1, The Rose Bowl, day three (close): Hampshire 293 & 248 v Nottinghamshire 354 & 54-1 Match scorecard
Andre Adams had another excellent day with the ball |
Nottinghamshire's charge towards a third Championship win of the season was held up by the unlikely batting skill of England bowler Chris Tremlett. Tremlett, with Hampshire in deep trouble on day three, made 52 and smashed Samit Patel for a big six. That left Notts wanting 188 to win, and they were on course by the close of day three with the total on 54-1. Once again Nottinghamshire's bowling hero was New Zealander Andre Adams, who
took 4-45 in 21 controlled overs. His aggressive, accurate bowling was rewarded with match figures of 8-108. The only top-order resistance from Hampshire came
from Michael Brown, the opener passing 500 runs for the season with his fifth half-century. But Hampshire's plight deepened when he guided Paul Franks to the stooping Will Jefferson after making 54. As wickets tumbled, Hampshire were a precarious 198-9, before Tremlett and Nantie Hayward put on exactly 50 to make the Notts chase a bit more of a challenge.
