County Championship D1, The Rose Bowl, day one (close): Hampshire 293 v Nottinghamshire 13-0 Match scorecard
Nottinghamshire dismissed Hampshire for an indifferent 293 to take the first day honours at the Rose Bowl. After Kiwi Andre Adams ended a bright Hampshire start by ousting both openers Darren Pattinson picked up two wickets in his first two overs after lunch. John Crawley and Nic Pothas took advantage of the weakened Notts attack to compile a stand of 95 in 25 overs. Adams knocked back Crawley's middle stump and though Dimitri Mascarenhas made a fluent fifty the innings faded. Mascarenhas returned from England one-day duty to lead Hants, and played a valuable innings down the order. It looked as if his team were set for a useful total but Pothas was lbw trying to turn spinner Samit Patel to leg. Crawley, refreshed after being rested for the Twenty20 Cup campaign, made a watchful fifty, but after Adams dismissed him, Greg Lamb lifted Patel to mid-on. Mascarenhas struck eight fours but Charlie Shreck returned to flatten his off-stump and added the wicket of last man Nantie Hayward. Notts had six overs to play out and Will Jefferson survived a huge appeal from Mascarenhas as the visitors posted 13 without loss.
