Twenty20 Cup, The Swalec Stadium Glamorgan (170-5) bt Somerset (156-8) by 14 runs
Glamorgan claimed their first Twenty20 Cup win of the season as they carved out a 14-run win over Somerset. Robert Croft and David Hemp put on 51 for Glamorgan before Hershelle Gibbs added 43 in his first knock in county cricket to add to the total of 170-5. Somerset responded quickly with Marcus Trescothick and Justin Langer putting on 68 before Trescothick fell for 38. Then the wickets came thick and fast for spinners Croft and Dean Cosker and Somerset fell short of the target. Glamorgan batted first and were reduced to 60-2 after eight overs with the fall of Hemp and Croft's wickets. Gibbs and Michael Powell (29) got the home side briefly back on track before Powell was caught in the deep and Gibbs and Jamie Dalrymple fell in the same over. But Mark Wallace (28 not out) breathed new life into the innings and guided Glamorgan to a reasonable score of 170 in Cardiff. Langer and Trescothick combined well as Somerset gave chase but the introduction of Glamorgan's spinners changed the complexion of the match. Somerset lost three wickets in seven balls as Cosker dismissed Trescothick and Croft bowled James Hildreth and caught Ian Blackwell lbw. The visitors were left needing 22 from the last six balls but Ben Phillips and Wes Durston could only manage seven.
