Twenty20 Cup, Taunton Northamptonshire 201-4 (20 overs) beat Somerset 176-7 (20 overs) by 25 runs
David Sales hammered an unbeaten 71 as Northamptonshire secured a 25-run win over Somerset in the Twenty20 Cup. The Steelbacks were put in to bat and reached 201-4, with Sales smashing six sixes and Andrew Hall (54) and Rob White (45) also impressing. Marcus Trescothick hit 69 off 32 balls in reply but after his stand with Justin Langer (32) the hosts fell away. Jason Brown and Nicky Boje claimed two wickets each as Somerset ended their innings on 176-7. White set the tone for the Northants innings, hitting the third ball of the game back over Alfonso Thomas's head for six. He hit six fours and three sixes in his 20-ball innings before he was caught at third man by Thomas off Mark Turner. Hall reached his half-century off 30 deliveries with five fours and two sixes, before Sales went into overdrive to hoist the visitors past the 200-mark. Trescothick reached his fifty off just 20 balls, with nine fours and two sixes, as Somerset raced to 66 off five overs. Brown (2-31) then took the wickets of Trescothick and Langer to bring Northants back into the game. And in the 16th over the match swung the visitors' way as Boje (2-19) dismissed Blackwell and James Hildreth with successive balls, leaving Peter Trego (45) with no support.
