County Championship D2, Sophia Gardens (day three): Northamptonshire 369 & 84-1 bt Glamorgan 204 & 248 by nine wickets
Points: Northamptonshire 21, Glamorgan 4 England left-arm spinner Monty Panesar starred as Northamptonshire climbed off the bottom of Division Two thanks to a nine-wicket victory over Glamorgan.
Panesar took 4-73 off 43 overs to make it nine wickets in the game and an even easier win was on with the hosts 134-7.
Skipper Robert Croft (47) led some late resistance until Jason Brown (3-46) helped polish Glamorgan off for 248.
That left Northants with 84 to win, which Chris Rogers (33no) and Stephen Peters (31) helped knock off easily.
The visitors only needed three balls to make their first breakthrough, Michael Powell leg before to Panesar and it was soon 74-4 when Ryan Watkins edged a wide Matt Nicholson ball straight to second slip.
Opener Gareth Rees scored a maiden championship half-century and looked to be launching a concerted recovery with James Franklin until the latter was stumped off Brown.
Five minutes before lunch Rees was caught at short-leg off Panesar to leave Northants three wickets from victory but Croft and David Harrison shared 51 to ensure they would have to bat again.
The tail added 114 in all but it mattered little and the Welsh county were soon contemplating a seventh Championship defeat of the season.
