County Championship Division One, Canterbury (stumps, day two): Kent 285 v Hampshire 171-2John Crawley hit 113 not out to lead Hampshire's reply to Kent's 285 on a day when only 55 overs were possible.
Rain delayed the start until 1425 BST and the visitors soon suffered a blow when the in-form Michael Carberry fell leg-before to Amjad Khan first ball.
But Crawley and James Adams (38) stood firm to put their side in a strong position with a partnership of 145.
Crawley was still going well at stumps and Hants will hope to build on their healthy position of 171-2 on day three.
Former Lancashire batsman Crawley reached his half-century from 67 balls with a flick to backward square-leg for his 11th boundary and continued to play his shots freely in the final session.
His 19th four, a pull off Min Patel, took him to three figures from 140 balls before seeing Adams perish in the following over.
He edged Darren Stevens to gully after a patient knock spanning just under three hours.
