County Championship D1, Edgbaston, day three (close): Yorkshire 216 & 134-2 v Warwickshire 316 & 399-5 dec Trott is alerting the England selectors with his prolific scoring |
Warwickshire's Jonathan Trott hit his second Championship ton of the year on day three to set Yorkshire 500 to win. The South African-born batsman, who has a British passport and qualifies for England in the autumn, hit 20 fours and a six in his five-hour innings.
He shared a Bears record third-wicket stand against the Tykes of 249 with Nick Knight, who hit 18 fours in 126.
Heath Streak took an early wicket but Anthony McGrath and Michael Lumb put on 73 as Yorkshire closed 134-2.
Trott hit the first ballof the day from Tim Bresnan straight down the ground for four and struck successive boundaries off Jason Gillespie.
Knight, who is retiring at the end of the season, needed only 57 balls to go from fifty to his century before mis-timing a pull off the Australian paceman.
Joe Sayers was trapped by Streak in a short session before tea, Matthew Wood was caught in the gully for 18 and McGrath was fortunate on 64 when Jim Troughton spilled a simple chance at point off Neil Carter.
Trott, who spent the winter working on his game in New Zealand rather than returning to his home in Cape Town, is refusing to look ahead to qualifying for England.
"I'm a big Spurs fan and I'm more worried about whether they're going to get the final Champions League place at the moment than I am about England.
"I can't play in the Tests or one-day internationals this summer so I'm not even going to think about it," he said.
"I want to do well for Warwickshire and let the rest look after itself."
