County Championship D1, The Brit Oval, day three (stumps): Surrey 444 & 425-4d v Glamorgan 345 & 177-2 Newman achieved what the likes of Jack Hobbs could not |

Scott Newman became the first Surrey cricketer to score a double century and a ton in the same match as Glamorgan were made to suffer at The Oval.
The opener hit 28 fours and four sixes in his 248-ball 219 - to add to his first-innings 117 - as the hosts declared on 425-4 at tea on day three.
It set winless Glamorgan a highly unlikely 525 for victory.
And at stumps they were on 177-2, with David Hemp and Michael Powell standing firm after two Martin Bicknell wickets.
Newman reached his maiden double ton during a 254-run stand for the second wicket with Mark Ramprakash (97).
The pair scored at almost five-per-over against a toothless visiting attack that was there for the taking on a belter of a pitch.
And Newman made the most of his opportunity to claim Surrey's third-highest individual runs aggregate ever in a match.

doesn't come along so often |
He gave no hint of a chance until, trying to replicate his pulled six off Andrew Davies, he spliced a simple catch to Robert Croft at mid-on next ball.
Neman had also joined only the great Jack Hobbs and Alan Butcher as one of just three men to have made hundreds in both innings against Glamorgan.
None of that was lost on the man himself, who said: "This sort of thing
doesn't come along so often - and I am just really pleased to be up there with
those sort of names."
Davies had already gained some reward for his toil when skipper Ramprakash - in sight of four hundreds in successive matches for the second season running - played across the line off the back foot and lost his middle-stump.
Bludgeoned
There was no let-up for Glamorgan, however, with Newman's departure bringing Ali Brown to the crease.
Big-hitting Brown bludgeoned an unbeaten 42 in 22 balls, including five boundaries and two sixes.
It was only when Darren Thomas had Rikki Clarke (34 off 33 balls) lbw just before tea - ending a brutal stand of 66 in seven overs with Brown - that Ramprakash decided to declare.
Newman's opening partner Richard Clinton had earlier been undone by a cunning delivery from Croft, bowled off-stump on the back foot.
