Surrey 180-7 (44.1 overs) beat Hampshire 178-8 (45 overs)

Adam Hollioake made an immediate impression in his first match back for Surrey this season, which ended in a thrilling final-over win for the visitors.

Club captain Hollioake was given time off by his county to grieve following the car accident in March in which his brother Ben died at the age of 24.

But he was Surrey's leading wicket-taker on Sunday as he took three wickets for 45 in his nine overs.

Batting at six, Hollioake, who hit 15, was then one of seven Surrey batsmen to be dismissed between 10 and 20 in a low-scoring affair at the Rose Bowl.

But Surrey clung on to win courtesy of an unbeaten 25-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Martin Bicknell and Ian Salisbury, who hit a four and a six in his 11-ball innings of 15.

Hampshire slump

Hollioake's decision to field first worked in Surrey's immediate favour as the home side slumped to seven for two.

The first man the captain removed was the in-form John Crawley, caught behind for 34 - the top individual score by Hampshire.

Bicknell, meanwhile, produced a miserly spell of two for 15 in his nine overs which contributed greatly to the Lions' victory.

Hollioake's wife and three-week-old baby Bennaya are staying in Perth, Australia, where the couple have a second home.

They will fly out to England soon along with Adam's parents.
