Yorkshire were forced to follow-on 219 runs in arrears after James Kirtley completed a five-wicket haul, taking his season's haul to 27. Gavin Hamilton was caught behind off the England one-day pace man with six runs having been added to the overnight 195 for six.
Richard Blakey was the ninth man out, lbw to Robin Martin-Jenkins having grafted through 154 deliveries for his 52. Kirtley followed up with a firey spell, bowling three maidens in his four overs before bad light brought an early close. But openers Matthew Wood and Craig White led the hosts to eight without loss from the seven overs available.
