McGrath can't star for Tykes
James Kirtley congratulated by Richard Montgomerie
Kirtley took two wickets in as many balls
County Championship D1, Headingley, day two of four: Yorkshire 195-6 v Sussex 435 all out

Champions Yorkshire were facing the follow-on at the hands of Division One new-boys Sussex, still 240 runs in arrears and five wickets down by the end of day two.

James Kirtley dismissed Craig White and Michael Lumb in consecutive deliveries, and then Kevin Innes took a brace to leave the Tykes 104 for five chasing a first innings 435.

And, even though Anthony McGrath hit a three-hour 71, in partnership with Richard Blakey, things still looked bleak for home fans.

McGrath was lbw to Billy Taylor but the veteran wicketkeeper stuck around with an unbeaten 41 from 105 balls.

Gavin Hamilton whethered much of the late storm to reach the close nine not out after 36 minutes, in an unbroken partnership of 19.

A last-wicket partnership of 37 between Taylor (18 not out) and Mark Davis (22) extended the Sussex first innings to maximum batting bonus points.

Tim Ambrose added just three to his overnight 146, and his dismissal saw three wickets fall for 10 runs, Ryan Sidebottom taking two of them to finish with three for 78.
