England denied in Dhaka
Tour match, Dhaka, final day:

England v Bangladesh President's XI
Spinners Gareth Batty and Ashley Giles bowled England to within one wicket of victory against a Bangladesh Cricket Board President's XI.

Batty took 3-22 to boost his chances of a first Test cap and Giles returned figures of 3-47, but the home side hung on for a draw with their last pair at the crease.

It was an encouraging effort by England's bowlers, with paceman Matthew Hoggard taking 6-13 as the President's XI were dismissed for just 57 in their first innings earlier in the day.

Surrey duo Graham Thorpe and Rikki Clarke were then sent out to open the batting in England's second innings after both registered ducks on the second day.

Thorpe batted with fluency to make 47 not out off 42 balls before the declaration came with the score on 69-1 when Clarke was out for 19.

The President's XI batted again 265 runs in arrears and soon lost Nafees Iqbal, who was caught behind off Martin Saggers for 20.

But England were held up by a 61-run second wicket stand between Aftab Ahmed and Hannan Sarkar which finally came to an end when Rikki Clarke had Ahmed lbw for 45.

The home side suffered another setback when Sarkar played no stroke to Giles' arm ball and was lbw for 16 and off-spinner Batty then joined in with two wickets in his first four overs.

They were 102-5 at tea and had only added four following the resumption when Clarke caught Abul Bashar off Giles for six.

Anwar Hossain and Enamul Haque did not last long, but England's failure to hold two chances offered by Nadif Chowdhury ultimately cost them victory.

He was finally yorked by Steve Harmison for 26 but there were only two balls left in the game and Moniruzzaman blocked them out as the President's XI finished on 143-9.
