Rohan Gavaskar, the son of Test legend Sunil, has been called into India's squad for the VB Series in Australia. The 27-year-old left-hander replaces Mohammed Kaif, who will miss the competition because of a damaged thumb.
Gavaskar Jr has been a regular member of the India A team, but this is his first chance with the senior side.
His father scored 10,122 runs in 125 Tests, including a record 34 centuries, and the 1983 World Cup final was among his 108 one-day appearances.
India play their opening game in the VB Series, which also involved Zimbabwe, next Friday when they take on Australia in Melbourne.
They will be without three regular members of the squad with Kaif, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh all injured.
Khan aggravated a hamstring problem during the Test series, while Harbhajan is facing up to five months out of cricket because of a finger injury.
India one-day squad: Sourav Ganguly (captain), Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Rohan Gavaskar, Parthiv Patel (wicketkeeper), Ajit Agarkar, Ashish Nehra, Anil Kumble, Murali Kartik, Irfan Pathan, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Sanjay Bangar, Hemang Badani.
