Shrewsbury and Wellington both started the Bank Holiday weekend with five-wicket Birmingham League defeats. Shrewsbury declared two overs early on 251-9 against Wolverhampton at Danescourt, Shropshire all-rounder Joe Leach making 86. But the home side proved too good, reaching their target to make 255-5. Ex-England one day man Dougie Brown took four wickets as Wellington were bowled out for 114 before hitting an unbeaten 32 as his side reached 115-5. Wellington's defeat leaves them just four points above the relegation zone, while Shrewsbury's first defeat sees them slip to fifth. In Division One, Shifnal lost to Kenilworth by 49 runs. Replying to 204-9, Shifnal were teetering on the brink of a heavier defeat, but a last-wicket stand of 52 between Jonty Mountford (28) and Adam Shimmons (23) reduced the losing margin. Whitchurch are joint top of Division Two after an easy success against Water Orton. Aqsad Ali scored 60 in Whitchurch's 202-9, then took 4-11 as Orton crashed to 88 all out in reply. Bridgnorth won by 64 runs at Eastnor, thanks to Jack Edwards and Alex Whitby, who both scored 63 in their total of 167. Tom Weaver then took 5-21 as Eastnor crumbled to 103 all out. Warrick Fynn's 60 was the cornerstone for Oswestry in their 207-9 at Penn in Division Three. Penn were then skittled for 128 by Fynn (4-19) and Mark Robinson (5-28). St George's are in trouble, in second bottom, after losing by four wickets to fellow strugglers Coleshill. Marston's Shropshire Premier League Reman Services take over at the top after winning the top of the table clash against Bomere Heath by just nine runs. John Ashton hit 36 and John Wigley 32 as Reman's were restricted to 175, Ian Gillespie taking 6-48. But three wickets apiece from bowlers Gary Williams and Mal Serplet bolted Bomere down to 166, despite 62 from Jed Grantham and 36 from Gillespie. Results Ludlow 197-7 (Wilton 51, Daniels 3-41) beat Madeley 151 (Prince 74, Wilton 5-54) by 46 runs. Albrighton 157 (Shimmons 35, Griffiths 3-22, Fenn 3-54) beat Shelton 160-9 (Kotze 74, Summers 3-37) by one wicket. Wem 225-8 (Gough 74, Cohen 41, Parker 3-52) beat Worfield 166 (Singh 52, Lanchbury 42, Cohen 3-38) by 59 runs. Newport 228-6 (Furniss 72, Pollard 4-51) beat Allscott 145 (Jones 51, Aziz 4-27) by 83 runs. Quatt 286-1 dec (Evans 115no, Hitchcock 106) beat Broseley 101 (Biddle 4-43, Arbuckle 3-7) by 185 runs. Much Wenlock 256-4 (Young 89, May 42) beat Newtown 86 (Young 4-40, Lewis 3-28) by 170 runs.
