 Udal took 822 wickets in 301 first-class games |
Former England off-spinner Shaun Udal has agreed to play for Berkshire in the 2011 season. The 41-year-old former Hampshire and Middlesex man retired from first-class cricket in October. Berkshire captain Bjorn Mordt told BBC Berkshire: "We were going to sign him two or three seasons ago but that fell through when Middlesex came in for him. "But he said to me then when he gave up first-class cricket he'd to come to Berkshire and he's true to his word." Udal, who played four Tests and 11 one-day internationals for England, arrives at Berkshire as a replacement for Carl Crowe after the former Leicestershire man left to take up a coaching role with the England women's team. "I don't like to go into a game without a quality spinner," added Mordt. "Unfortunately for us Carl Crowe has taken the assistant coach's job with the England women. As soon as we found that out, we wanted to go for a spinner and who better than Shaun Udal?"
