Chairman sees bright future for young Shropshire side

Shropshire celebrate
Shropshire's young side lift the 2010 Minor Counties Knockout

The 2010 Minor Counties Knockout Cup winners Shropshire have been earmarked for a big future by their chairman Bryan Foulkes.

Shropshire gave debuts to two teenagers in their final League game against Cheshire - wicketkeeper Ben Price, 18, and Jack Edwards, 16.

"We're a young side growing fast under a great captain in Ed Foster," Foulkes told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"He's led us superbly and the Cup win shows just how far we've come."

Foulkes added: "Our Under-21 side has almost become redundant, and we're looking at doing away with it as all those lads are now playing in the first team.

"And you've got to remember that Ed is only 24 himself."

Foster led Shropshire to their first-ever Knockout success last week - and the county's first silverware since topping the Minor Counties Championship back in 1973.

"The dressing room is as happy a one as I can think of, and the future looks very very bright for Shropshire," said Foulkes.
