Wellington go clear of Shrewsbury in Birmingham League

Wellington have jumped a point ahead of Shrewsbury into second spot in the Birmingham Premier League.

A draw with Wolverhampton was good enough - Adam Byram's 41 helping them to 202-8, in reply to Wolves' 223-9.

Shrewsbury also drew with Himley who hit an impressive 317-8 before Will Parton scored 72 a reply of 227-8.

Shifnal hung on against First Division leaders West Bromwich who made 285-9 before Richard Murrall (32) top-scored in a reply of 147-7.

St George's produced a surprise in the Second Division in their Shropshire derby at leaders Whitchurch.

The visitors motored to 231-9, with Chris Miller (67), Godfrey Stevens (45) and Steve Taylor (40) in the runs, even though Amjaad Alikhan picked up a five-wicket haul for a miserly 35 runs.

In reply Whitchurch were hanging on at the close, on 214-9, after Taylor took 4-39.

Bridgnorth hit 252 all out at Tamworth, with Ryan Lockley (79) and Jono Whitney (43) to the fore, but the home side held out at 225-9 for the draw.

A 69 from Nick Southall led the way in Brewood's 218-5, but Oswestry made the draw as Mark Robinson went ten runs better in his side's 183-9.

In the Shropshire Premier League, leaders Madeley suffered a surprise 100-run defeat against lowly Albrighton.

But the story of the day saw Much Wenlock beat Allscott by 363 runs - the biggest winning margin in the league's history.
