Devon's batsmen thrived on the first day of their Minor Counties Championship match against Cornwall in Torquay on Sunday. The home side batted first, scoring 305 all out, thanks in part to 77 from Bobby Dawson, and Trevor Anning's 56. Captain Tom Sharp was the pick of the bowlers for Cornwall with 3-47, while Sam Hockin, Kelvin Snell and Rob Harrison all took two wickets. Cornwall hit 98-2 in reply before the close of play. Matt Robins hit eight boundaries in a quick-fire 38, while fellow opener Gary Thomas was dismissed for 12. Play is scheduled to resume in Torquay at 1100 BST on Monday.
