Berkshire captain calls for a Minor Counties T20

Berkshire captain Bjorn Mordt is calling for a Minor Counties Twenty20 league to be established.

Speaking after his team's 84-run defeat to Middlesex in a Twenty20 match, Mordt said playing more of this form of the game is the way forward.

He told BBC Berkshire: "It's the way cricket's going these days. You saw the crowd we had here today.

"It would be nice if the Minor Counties could have a Twenty20 league. I'm sure they could fit it in somewhere."

In the friendly at Finchampstead Cricket Club, Middlesex won the toss and chose to bat. They made 189 from their 20 overs, with Scott Newman top-scoring with 80.

Berkshire player-coach Carl Crowe made 35 in their reply of 105 all out.

Despite the defeat, Mordt was upbeat about his team's performance.

"They were 82 after six overs, so for us to restrict them to 100 in the last 14 is top draw - we showed a lot of spirit coming back from that.

"Middlesex were definitely the better team, but I still think Berkshire can take a lot of credit for today."
