Nelson hit 54 out of 69 in boundaries in a match-winning knock |
Northants all-rounder Mark Nelson helped Northampton Saints close the gap on Finedon Dolben at the top of the Hevey Northamptonshire League. Saints were reeling at 11-4 in search of 172 to beat Stony Stratford, but Nelson's crucial 69 saw them home. They are now just two points behind Finedon, who had to settle for a draw with third-placed Old Northamptonians. Peterborough's title hopes suffered a major blow as they crashed to a shock 119-run defeat against Wollaston. Rushden saw off Rushton by six wickets, Burton Latimer drew with Northamptonshire Academy and Desborough are 22 points adrift at the bottom of the Premier Division after sharing the honours with fellow strugglers Brixworth. Geddington remain top of Division One despite a tense two-wicket defeat at the hands of Irthlingborough, who are looking to bounce back after being relegated last season.
