Cornwall beaten by holders Devon

Cricket

MCCA Trophy holders Devon picked up where they left off last season with a 44-run win over Cornwall in their first 50-over game of the season on Sunday.

Devon batted first making 242-8 with Neil Hancock top scoring with 79 and Bobby Dawson hitting 57.

Cornwall were all out for 198 in reply, Keith Parsons knocked the highest score with 63 from 80 deliveries.

Dan Davies was the pick of the bowlers for Cornwall with three wickets, whilst Ian Bishop also got three for Devon.

Cornwall captain Tom Sharp told BBC Radio Cornwall:

"We're disappointed obviously, we never want to lose and we certainly don't want to lose to Devon.

"There were some parts of the game which we played quite well, we bowled pretty well but perhaps we missed a couple of chances in the field.

"A couple of the guys looked in good touch with the bat and we know we're going to score more runs than that normally."
