Saqlain Mushtaq has made almost 50 Test appearances for Pakistan |
Saqlain Mushtaq inspired Burslem to a 56-run victory at Stone on the opening day of the season in North Staffordshire and South Cheshire. After winning the toss and batting first, Burslem posted a total of 155, with Alex Bailey top-scoring with 53. But then Pakistan spinner Saqlain took centre-stage with 6-29, as Stone were skittled out for just 99. Elsewhere, defending Premier League champions Moddershall were hammered by 115 runs by Wood Lane. There were also wins for Longton, Little Stoke, Knypersley and Audley on the opening weekend of the season. Saqlain signed for Burslem after the club's full-time professional Samiullah Khan did not receive international clearance in time to play. It may prove to be Saqlain's final appearance for the club, although the 32-year-old could be called upon again if the situation surrounding Khan is not sorted out before their next fixture.
