Solanki has scored over 12,000 runs for Worcestershire |
Worcestershire and England batsman Vikram Solanki has been elected as the new chairman of the Professional Cricketers' Association. The PCA is the representative body for past, present and future first class cricketers in England and Wales. Solanki, 32, was elected ahead of Shaun Udal, Dominic Cork, Mal Loye, Michael Brown and Stephen Peters. "I am honoured that the players have chosen me to represent them as chairman," said Solanki. "I intend to build on the superb work already being undertaken by the PCA, in acting in the best interests of our members and driving the game forward." Solanki has spent the entirety of his first-class career with Worcestershire - where he has been captain for the last five years - and has played 51 one-day internationals for England, the last against Sri Lanka in 2006. He also sits on the England and Wales Cricket Board's Cricket Committee and the PCA Advisory Committee. Sean Morris, the PCA's chief executive, said: "With nearly two decades experience of both domestic and international cricket, Vikram is well equipped to assist the PCA in its central role of working with the key stakeholders, to ensure improvement both on and off the field." Solanki replaces the outgoing chairman, former Warwickshire and England all-rounder Dougie Brown.
