Shrewsbury take Shifnal's place

Cricket ball

Shifnal failed in their attempt to stay in the top flight of the Birmingham League, swapping places with their Shropshire rivals Shrewsbury.

Shifnal were bowled out for just 80 at home to Walmley, who went on to win comfortably by five wickets.

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury again won promotion as they took the Division One title for the third time in six years.

Jack Shantry took five wickets in bowling Dorridge out for 85 before then hitting 37 not out with the bat.

In Division One, Wellington finished the season on a high after skittling Attock for 107.

Wellington then cruised to victory for the loss of just three wickets, to lift them to a final place of sixth in the league.

In Division Two it turned out to be a bad day for both Shropshire teams, as St Georges and Newport both lost.

The Dragons' Carl Ward (5-39) led the way as St Georges restricted Aston Manor to 187 all out. But, in reply, the Telford-based club fell well short on 144.

Newport, who finished 11th, were rolled out for 96 by Water Orton, who knocked the runs off for the loss of two wickets.

In Division Three, Oswestry had an unhappy end to their first season in the Birmingham League as they were relegated.

Chasing Olton's 185, the North Shropshire team lost by 83 runs.

Bridgnorth finished seventh after a disappointing end at home to Studley, who shot them out for 75 to set up a six-wicket win.

Fourth-placed Whitchurch also lost, making only 131 for 9 from their 50 overs at home to Kington, who won by five wickets.

In the Shropshire Premier League, Reman Services were crowned champions and will take Oswestry's place in the Birmingham League next season.

John Wigley's five for 23 restricted Madeley to 140 all out before Wendell Wagner finished the season on a high, hitting 53 as Reman won by three wickets.

Ludlow secured fifth place finish as Ali Raza's 42 helped them to 134 all out.

Martin Murdoch (4-40) led the way with the ball for Broseley, who were then bowled out for 75 to leave them bottom.

Much Wenlock struggled to 115 all out but Duncan May then turned things around, taking four wickets as Newtown were bowled out for just 77.

Quatt reached a respectable 153 for 8 from 40 overs, captain Adrian Evans top scoring with 40.

But, despite Craig Jones's best efforts (4-17), Shelton held on for a losing draw to secure third place.

Albrighton's game against Welshpool and Wem's trip to Bomere Heath were both abandoned.
