Rovers secured the third qualifying spot for a Guernsey side in the Channel Islands cricket championship as they beat Optimists by 26 runs on Sunday. Batting first, Rovers made 258 for five in their 45 overs, as South African GH Smit hit 115 and Richard Headington made 81 against the bottom side. Optis played well in reply, making 232 all out, with Chris Whitworth getting 66 and Mark Jefferies 40. Wanderers ended their campaign with a 165-run win over Argyll Investments. Australian Ben Taylor smashed a 68-ball century, while Spencer Noyon made 91, as they became the third and fourth players in seven days to score 90 or more for Wanderers following Ben Driver and Ross Kneller last week. In reply Argylls were all out for just 108 as veteran left-arm spinner Steve Birkett took 5 for 34. Taylor contributed with the ball as well, taking 3 for 21. The last match remaining in the league programme is one of the biggest of the season, with unbeaten champions Cobo facing Wanderers at the KGV on 20 July.
