FIFTH ONE-DAY INTERNATIONAL, KARACHI Pakistan 329-9 (50 overs) beat Bangladesh 179 (40.5 overs) by 150 runs Butt has scored six centuries since his ODI debut in September 2004 |
Salman Butt scored his second century of the series as Pakistan duly sealed a 5-0 whitewash against Bangladesh. Butt and Younis Khan (69) put on 179 inside 30 overs for the second wicket as Pakistan ran up a huge 329-9 after choosing to bat at the Karachi Stadium. Left-hander Butt, who scored a total of 451 runs in the series, fired 14 fours and a six in his 124-ball innings. Mohammad Asif took two wickets in two balls in the fifth over, claiming 3-35, as the Tigers were all out for 179. Butt reached three figures from exactly 100 balls. He took two successive fours off Shahadat Hossain in an over in which Mohammad Yousuf pulled a six over backward square-leg. Butt departed in the 38th over when Shakib Al Hassan ran around in the deep and the umpires decided his juggled effort was a clean catch. Much to the disappointment of the crowd, Shahid Afridi lasted only five balls before mis-timing one, but in the context of the match it was not significant. Bangladesh needed a solid base but got exactly the opposite. Junaid Siddique sliced straight to Butt at backward point and next up Aftab Ahmed tried to turn to leg and Steve Bucknor, after his customary deliberation, sent him back to the pavilion. Tamim Iqbal sliced the first ball of the next over high over the slips for four but edged the next one, which moved away, through to the keeper. There were some defiant late boundaries, number 10 Abdur Razzak with five fours in his 33, but the Tigers were well and truly tamed once again.
