Fifth one-day International, Sheikhupura: Pakistan 187-3 beat Zimbabwe 181 by seven wickets Abdur Rauf celebrates as he makes an encouraging debut |
Pakistan handed debuts to four players but still thrashed Zimbabwe in the final one-day international in Sheikhupura to seal a 5-0 whitewash. On a cold day, 29-year-old seamer Abdur Rauf took 3-45 in his first match for Pakistan, while another debutant Wahab Riaz claimed 2-19 in eight overs. Another new face, Khurram Manzoor, hit 50, while the fourth, spinner Rizwan Ahmed, took 0-26 in four overs. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 181, Pakistan winning by seven wickets. It took exactly 31 overs for Pakistan to win, after Manzoor and Younus Khan (63) had put on 97 for the second wicket from 101 balls. Misbah-ul-Haq (32 not out) finished off the match and the series by hitting a Ray Price full toss for six over long-off. "It's good for us that we won all the matches especially after losing to South Africa at home and against India," said Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, who was named man of the series. | We were in winning positions in three matches so we must learn how to finish off games |
"We have won the series through team effort. The seniors backed the newcomers, which was great, but we have some shortcomings to overcome before facing Australia." Zimbabwe's stand-in captain Hamilton Masakadza said: "It was disappointing to lose the series 5-0. "Lots of our batters got starts in the series but nobody could go on to convert them into big scores. "We should have won at least two matches. "We were in winning positions in three matches so we must learn how to finish off games when we are in good positions."
