Second one-day International, Hyderabad: Pakistan 239-5 (46.2 overs) beat Zimbabwe 238-5 (50 overs) by 5 wkts Jamshed hit 61 on debut in the opening match of the series |
Nasir Jamshed continued his fine form as Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe by five wickets in Hyderabad to take a 2-0 lead in the one-day international series. After 61 on debut in the opener, the 18-year-old fired 74 as Pakistan passed Zimbabwe's 238-8 with 22 balls left. Hamilton Masakadza fired 10 fours in his 87 after the hosts won the toss, while Tatenda Taibu added 81. Jamshed was put down on six by bowler Gary Brent, while Shahid Afridi was dropped twice in his unbeaten 43. Jamshed was reprieved in the fourth over, Brent failing to cling on to a low return chance in his follow-through. He looked set to record a maiden century when attempting an ill-advised quick single too close to bowler Ray Price, who gathered and threw down the stumps with Jamshed several feet short of his ground. Younis Khan was also run out in that 21st over but it did not prove costly, although Zimbabwe should have made it a contest closer, twice dropping Afridi.
