Smith savours runs and 4-0 rout
Graeme Smith
Smith hit some typically brutal shots in his 20th ODI fifty
South Africa captain Graeme Smith returned to form in emphatic fashion with a fierce 79 as his team wrapped up a 4-0 one-series triumph over India.

Smith had made only one run from three innings in the series but hit seven fours and three sixes at Centurion.

"I'm very chuffed with getting a performance under the belt and I'm very happy with the series win," he said.

Looking to the three Tests he added: "The guys are highly motivated, we really want to have a successful year."

Smith won the toss in every match in the limited overs series, and was delighted with the way his team restricted India to 200-9 after choosing to field first in the final game.

"Our bowlers were fantastic again, they set a fabulous tone for us, the fielding was superb and I'm very, very happy with the way the guys have performed," the ebullient left-hander said.

The 25-year-old skipper was also full of praise for the enthusiastic supporters.

"We've had a fantastic turn-out in every game we've played, the fans were fantastic, they really got behind the guys and it really makes a difference to all of us," he said.

Thoughts now turn to the Test series, beginning in Johannesburg on 15 December, as the South Africans try to preserve an unbeaten home record in nine matches against India.

"Obviously it's a different format so we've got to get our brains around that and our squad but we're very excited about it. There's some good cricket ahead of us and the guys are very confident," Smith enthused.

Evergreen all-rounder Shaun Pollock was named man-of-the-match for his superb miserly spell of 2-17 from 10 overs.

"I'm quite relaxed, I've trained hard and I'm feeling good at the moment, I'm enjoying cricket as much as ever," said the 33-year-old, who took his one-day international wicket haul to 364.

Pollock also collected the man-of-the-series accolade for his 10 wickets in the four completed matches, but paid tribute to his colleagues and said: "We've bowled well as a unit throughout, every one of the guys has put their hands up and bowled superbly."
