Akmal's 121-ball innings put Pakistan in control of the first Test |
Pakistan wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal credits Australia's Adam Gilchrist with helping him overcome poor form. Akmal, whose place was under scrutiny after he struggled in England and in the Champions Trophy, hit a blistering 78 against West Indies on Monday.
"I spoke to Gilchrist in India and he gave me some useful tips," said Akmal.
"I learnt things from him and have worked hard with coach Bob Woolmer to improve. It felt good to get some runs - it has helped me regain confidence."
Akmal's 121-ball innings, in a seventh-wicket stand worth 148 with Mohammad Yousuf, put Pakistan in complete control of the first Test on day three.
Twenty-four-year-old Akmal ended the 12-year reign of Pakistani keepers Rashid Latif and Moin Khan when he made his debut in 2002 but only cemented his place in the side in 2004.
He has scored 1,331 runs in 28 Tests but passed 20 just once during the recent Test series in England.
"It was my first tour to England and the pitches seamed a bit. I found it hard to adjust as keeper and batsman," he admitted.
