One-day international, Trinidad: India 217-7 v West Indies 218-4 Bravo congratulates Lara on hitting a six during the match |
Brian Lara hit 69 to help the West Indies clinch the one-day series against India with a six-wicket win on his home ground in Trinidad.
The West Indies captain hit his runs off 97 balls as his side won with six overs to spare to take a 3-1 lead in the five-match series.
West Indies put India into bat and restricted them to 217-7 before replying with 218-4 in 44 overs.
Dwayne Bravo scored a career-best 61 not out in a stand of 91 with Lara.
The pair rescued the West Indies, who had slipped to 91-3 in the 23rd over after losing Marlon Samuels for nine, Ramnaresh Sarwan for six and Chris Gayle for 46.
Their fourth-wicket partnership turned the match in their side's favour with Bravo, who earlier took 3-32, winning the man-of-the-match award.
He hit three fours and one six in his 62-ball innings.
Lara started off in sedate mood and allowed Gayle to play the attacking shots but once the opener was out, the captain began to hit out.
He hit 14 off one over from Harbhajan Singh, bringing up his half-century in the process, before his innings ended when he was caught at long-off by Suresh Raina after mistiming a drive off Ramesh Powar.

Earlier, the tourists slumped to 47-3, with captain Rahul Dravid among the early casualties, before Mohammad Kaif (62) and Yuvraj Singh (52) put on 80 for the fourth wicket.
Yuvraj hit five boundaries before edging Fidel Edwards to wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh and Kaif finally fell when he was bowled by Bravo after hammering five boundaries in his 84 deliveries.
Kaif shared a fifth-wicket stand of 61 with Mahendra Dhoni who weighed in with 46 not out.
Prior to the match, Lara indicated that Sunday's fifth and final game in the series would be his last one-day international on his home ground.
West Indies do not have any matches scheduled for the Queen's Park Oval at next year's World Cup.
The series victory was West Indies' first over a team ranked higher than them since they beat India 4-3 in 2002 and came on the back of a 5-0 series win over Zimbabwe earlier this month.
West Indies and India begin a four-match Test series in Antigua on Friday.
