One-day international, St Kitts: West Indies 248-6 (49.5 overs) beat India 245-9 (50 overs) by four wickets
Sarwan was supreme with a career best score |
Ramnaresh Sarwan hit a century in his 100th one-day international as West Indies beat India with a single ball to spare to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Chasing 246 in the first international ever in St Kitts, Sarwan (115no) put on 106 with Shiv Chanderpaul (58) and the West Indies got home by four wickets.
After Rahul Dravid fell early, Virender Sehwag (96) put on 61 with Suresh Raina and 112 with Mohammad Kaif.
But six wickets, including three run-outs, fell for 31 runs in 12 overs.
Needing 10 runs from the last two overs, the home side then saw Chanderpaul dismissed lbw to Irfan Pathan and Dwayne Bravo run out before Carlton Baugh helped Sarwan finish the job.
 | I think this is probably my best one-day innings |
The two remaining games in the series take place in Trinidad on Friday and Sunday.
After a thrilling one-run victory in Jamaica last Saturday, the West Indies stuck with an unchanged side.
The tourists chose to bring in Venugopal Rao for Yuvraj Singh, suffering back spasms, while Sri Sreesanth replaced paceman Munaf Patel.
But having chosen to bat, Dravid lasted only four balls before he was dismissed by left-arm over paceman Ian Bradshaw.
Raina hit four fours in 26 from 28 balls before he too fell to Bradshaw, bowled off his pads.
Sehwag's blistering 96 came from 83 balls with nine fours and three mighty sixes before Bravo found some inswing with a change of pace and caught him on the boot.
Kaif reached fifty when another Bravo slower ball found his leading edge as he tried to turn to leg and the ball looped inches short of Marlon Samuels diving forward at short cover.
Rahul Dravid was clearly disappointed at the end of the game |
In reply, Sarwan came in to bat with the West Indies in trouble at 31-2, after new opener Samuels and Runako Morton both fell to marginal lbw decisions.
He took on the pace bowlers from the off, and when India turned to spin Sarwan twice hit Ramesh Powar over long on for six.
After a stand of 85 for the third wicket, Gayle (40) and skipper Brian Lara fell in quick succession.
But Chanderpaul overcame a hamstring strain in an impressive 58-ball 50.
Sarwan cut part-time spinner Sehwag for four to bring up his third one-day century and his first against India.
After missing out on a century with his unbeaten 98 in Friday's victory, he bettered his previous best of 104 not out against England in Bridgetown in 2004.
And he finished the job by punching the penultimate ball from Sreesanth to the cover boundary.
