Jayawardene said Sri Lanka did not have the luck |
Stand-in skipper Mahela Jayawardene said Sri Lanka had "missed an opportunity" in the first Test against Pakistan, which ended in a draw. Sri Lanka needed to take eight wickets on the final day but the match ended with Pakistan on 337-4, set an improbable 458 to win.
"When you have 140 overs to get a side out and win a Test match, it is a missed opportunity," Jayawardene said.
"I am not disappointed with the way we played. It was not our day."

He added: "To fight back from 32 for five to be pushing hard for a win on the final day was a decent performance and there were a lot of positives."
Pakistan's Shoaib Malik scored his maiden Test century in an epic 336-ball slog and ended unbeaten on 148.
But he rode his luck at times, being dropped on 14, surviving an lbw shout on 70, and was not given out when he clearly edged on 94.
Jayawardene added: "It's a magnificent effort on his part, but he had a fair bit of luck.
"That's how the game goes and I don't want to say anything beyond that."
Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq said Malik's heroic effort had helped save the Test match.
"The boys played really well - especially Malik and (Faisal) Iqbal," said Inzamam.
"Malik played a brilliant innings and when someone plays like he did the opposition is always going to be in trouble.
"When we didn't lose a wicket until the luncheon interval it was the turning point as we were confident of batting out two sessions.
"The pitch was good but some balls were keeping slow and low and it was not easy against the fast bowlers."
