Kallis has not played competitively since 15 January |
Jacques Kallis has been added to the South Africa one-day squad after recovering from an elbow injury. But the world's second-ranked Test batsman may not be risked until the opening Test against Australia, starting in Cape Town on 16 March.
"It would be great if he were able to play on Friday but we will not push him unnecessarily," said convenor of selectors Haroon Lorgat.
"It is crucial that he is 100% ready for the upcoming Test series."
Kallis has not played competitively since 15 January, when he was forced to return home from Australia in the middle of the VB Series with the long-term injury.
South Africa are currently 2-1 up in the return one-day series, with the remaining matches in Durban on Friday and Johannesburg on Sunday.
