Kallis faces month-long lay-off
Kallis is ranked as the world's second-best Test batsman
South Africa expect Kallis to be fit for Australia's tour
South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis will miss the remainder of the VB Series against Australia and Sri Lanka.

But officials are confident he will recover from an elbow injury for Australia's return visit next month.

"Jacques is coming home for treatment so that we can get him fully ready for the return series against Australia," said chief of selectors Haroon Lorgat.

The uncapped Johan van der Wath, who played for Sussex last year, has been called into the side in Australia.

"With great interest we have been watching Johan's performances and good form for South Africa A and for the Eagles in the domestic competitions," Lorgat continued.

"We believe that he has much to offer - both now and in the future."

Kallis has been plagued by elbow trouble for the past few months, which led to him being left out of the first Test against Australia and Tuesday's one-day defeat by Sri Lanka.

South Africa's injury list lengthened further, with Charl Langeveldt suffering a groin problem.

Fellow pace bowlers Andre Nel and Makhaya Ntini are already back in South Africa.

But Lorgat added: "We are confident that all three players will be fit again for the home series against Australia."

South Africa's next VB Series fixture is against the hosts in Melbourne on Friday.
