McCallan delight at Irish triumph
Ireland all-rounder Kyle McCallan
All-rounder Kyle McCallan helped Ireland to victory in the final
Ireland all-rounder Kyle McCallan has described the six-wicket victory over Kenya in the ICC Intercontinental Cup final as a "massive achievement".

McCallan was joint man-of-the match after his four second innings wickets put Ireland on course for glory.

"It is a very sweet victory and we hope to have proved to the ICC that we are the number one associate team in the world," McCallan told BBC Sport.

"This Irish side under Adrian Birrell has a 'never say die' attitude."

He added: "This has made all the training sessions in Dublin and the sacrifices made by our family and friends worth it.

"It is up to us now to keep rapping on the ICC door and keep letting them see that Irish cricket is something to be taken very seriously.

"I hope that between now and the World Cup we can keep furthering the reputation of the game in the country, bringing more people to games and attracting more sponsors."

Kenya were in a strong position at the start of the final day in Namibia on 104-3 and with a lead of 192 runs.

But the wickets quickly tumbled on Saturday morning and the Africans were scuttled out for 156.

Waringstown player McCallan took four wickets while Andrew White, who shared the man-of-the-match award, claimed three and Adrian McCoubrey chipped in with two.

The victoery target was 245 and the Irish batsmen completed the task with ease, losing just four wickets with Jeremy Bray top-scoring with 64.

Ireland's task was made harder when their captain and top bowler Trent Johnston broke a finger in the first innings.

"We turned up on Saturday morning with nothing to lose," said McCallan.

"Between some good bowling and indifferent batting we were able to put a lot of pressure on them.

"We got the big wicket of Steve Tikolo quite early and we managed to take the last six wickets for about six runs.

"We lost the toss and our captain early in the first innings so to win the game and bowl Kenya out without your main strike bowler is a massive achievement."
