A one-off cocaine mistake could cost Wagg his cricket career

Wagg was banned for 15 months by the England and Wales Cricket Board for admitting to taking the banned drug.

He told the Daily Telegraph it was the first time he had taken cocaine adding he was ashamed and sorry.

Wagg said: "Cricket is my life but it's going to be very hard to get back because of one stupid mistake."

He was sacked by his county Warwickshire and now faces an uncertain future.

The Professional Cricketers Association has pledged to help Wagg with coaching and personal development and he is set to keep fit by training with a Midlands football team.

Wagg said he took a line of cocaine after a night of heavy drinking following a split with his long-term girlfriend.

He then played the final Totesport League game of the season against Gloucestershire and was randomly tested afterwards.

He added: "That was the first time I'd tried it [cocaine].

"I'm not a druggie and I hate it that people think I'm some kind of addict.

"Fifteen months out could cost me my career, but cricket shouldn't tolerate drugs.

"I was an idiot and I've got to take my punishment."

Wagg does believe there should be parity among all sports when dealing with drug punishments.

In football, former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu could get a lesser ban than Wagg's for taking the same drug.

The cricketer added: "It should be clear across all sports that you can't do drugs. Anyone caught should be banned."
