Ganguly hurt himself while fielding in the first Test |
India captain Sourav Ganguly will miss this week's fourth and final Test against Australia after failing to recover from a groin injury. The 32-year-old, who missed the decisive third match, trained with the rest of the squad on Sunday in Mumbai (Bombay) but looked shaky in the nets.
In his absence, Rahul Dravid will again lead the team out on Wednesday.
"I am out of the match," Ganguly confirmed. "I'm not able to run at all, so I can't play."
Australia won the third Test in Nagpur by 342 runs to take a 2-0 lead and clinch their first series in India since Bill Lawry's team triumphed in 1969. Ganguly hurt himself while fielding in the first Test earlier this month but the injury deteriorated during practice for the third game of the series.
India added two specialist openers to their 15-man squad in Gautam Gambhir and Dheeraj Jadhav and dropped Aakash Chopra.
But Mohammad Kaif is likely to continue in Ganguly's place after scoring half-centuries in the last two Tests.
