Australia's Shane Warne said he could rest a little easier now he had claimed a record number of Test wickets. Warne knows he may only have a short-lived hold on the record mark of 535 with the younger Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan breathing down his neck.
On a day when India prospered, Warne said: "If I only hold the record for a week, at least I've got the opportunity to say I was the world record holder.
"At the moment it's a bit of a blur but obviously it felt pretty special."
Warne, 35, broke the record on the second day of the second Test when he had nightwatchman Irfan Pathan caught by Matthew Hayden in the slips.
Warne could gain a handsome lead over Muralitharan as he plays seven more Tests this year, including five at home against New Zealand and Pakistan.
Muralitharan's return to the Sri Lankan squad is uncertain after shoulder surgery. He has said himself he could be out of cricket until March 2005.
Realistically, he has much more international cricket left in him than Warne, but the Australian is enjoying his time in the limelight.
He said: "The crowd here understood what was going on and they were very appreciative.
"To have them clapping and chanting my name was pretty special."
The 35-year-old bowler ended the second day of the Test with 3-93.

He added: "It has gone so fast. I'm up to 114 Tests and I have missed probably 30 through injuries and things but I feel very proud to get the record and I never thought I would.
"I suppose I'll take five minutes with my wife tonight and just reflect and say that was pretty good."
The second day of the second Test belonged to India, however, led by Virender Sehwag with 155.
Sehwag said: "I am relieved the runs have finally come.
"It was getting to me a little because I was letting the side down.
"My first aim was to spend some time at the wicket and then open out once I was settled in.
"I will be happier if we go on to win this match. But there is a lot of cricket left over the next three days."
