Klusener is still a force to be reckoned with in one-day cricket |
All-rounder Lance Klusener has been awarded a central contract by South Africa after being dropped from the list a year ago. Captain Graeme Smith once described Klusener as a disruptive influence which could "infect the team".
But the pair have settled their differences and the all-rounder is now back in the one-day side.
Klusener has played 164 one-day games and 48 Tests and was Player of the Tournament at the 1999 World Cup.
He was dropped from the national squad after last year's World Cup, prompting him to take legal action against the United Cricket Board of South Africa.
The 33-year-old claimed loss of earnings after insisting he had been verbally promised a contract for the tour to England last summer.
The two sides finally ended their dispute in January via an out of court settlement and he returned to the team for a home one-day series against West Indies.
The list of 18 contracted players does not contain any surprise names, but Garnett Kruger, Albie Morkel and Justin Ontong could all be added in due course.
Mfuneko Ngam and Alan Dawson, who were given contracts for 2003-04, have been dropped, and Gary Kirsten will retire from international cricket after the third Test in New Zealand, which starts on Friday.
Central contracts: P Adams, N Boje, M Boucher, B Dippenaar, H Gibbs, A Hall, J kallis, L Klusener, N McKenzie, A Nel, M Ntini, R Peterson, S Pollock, A Prince, J Rudolph, G Smith, M van Jaarsveld, M Zondeki.
