Klusener has played 48 Tests and 111 one-day internationals |
Lance Klusener has been left out of South Africa's squad to tour England this summer. Klusener, 31, has suffered from poor form since scoring his last Test century 18 months ago.
His omission for the trip to England, and from the list of central contracts also announced on Monday, effectively ends a career that has included 48 Tests and 154 one-day internationals.
The tourists are without veterans Allan Donald and Jonty Rhodes, who retired after the side crashed out of the World Cup at the first round stage. But Gary Kirsten, who has withdrawn from one-day internationals, is named in the side for the five-Test series, which begins at Edgbaston on 24 July.
And Mark Boucher regains the vice-captaincy after an experiment without a deputy during the recent tour to Bangladesh.
South Africa's first engagement is the one-day NatWest Series, also involving Zimbabwe.
Wicket-keeper/batsman Morne van Wyk and fast bowler Dewald Pretorius are the only two uncapped members of the one-day squad.

Pace bowler Monde Zondeki is still regaining fitness after a car accident in March, but has been selected for the Test squad, although he has yet to play the five-day game. The other uncapped player in the Test party is wicket-keeper Thami Tsolekile, who will understudy Boucher.
Graeme Smith replaced Shaun Pollock as captain after the World Cup, becoming South Africa's youngest ever skipper.
Smith leads a team with just six players who have been on senior tours to England in the past.
"We are a young side with plenty of exciting talent," Smith said.
"But we are also starting on a new era with South African cricket and we see this tour as another step forward on that path."
Pretorius, Andre Nel and Andrew Hall are all currently playing county cricket in England.
Mfuneko Ngam and batsman Ashwell Prince are the only contracted players who will not be on the tour.
Pace bowler Ngam is likely to join the National Academy during the Southern Hemisphere winter as he recovers from a foot fracture.
