Imran Farhat and Yasir Hameed made the state side's bowling look mediocre as they put on 74 for the second wicket, setting the tourists on course for a first innings 318.
Auckland were 35-1 in reply when bad light brought an early end to the day.
Farhat's 73 off 70 balls, with 11 fours and a six, before he became the first of five wickets for Brooke Walker.
Hameed went on to 96 off 104 balls before he fell victim to a leg-side trap, hooking a ball from Paul Hitchcock down to Kerry Walmsley at backward square leg.
Down the order, Kamal Asim made 43 off 107 deliveries, while Shoaib Akhtar thrashes three sixes and three fours in his 32.
Shoaib then took the only Auckland wicket to fall before stumps when he had Lou Vincent caught by Mohammad Sami for four.
Vincent is one of three players from this match in New Zealand's squad for the first Test, which begins in Hamilton on Friday.
